Hanska Summary

Hanska, Minnesota is a small city located in Brown County in the south-central part of the state. It is situated on the banks of the Cottonwood River, about 10 miles east of New Ulm. The city has a population of just over 500 people, and is part of the Mankato-North Mankato Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Hanska was founded in 1856 by German immigrants who had come to the area in search of a better life. The city was named after the Hanska family, who were among the first settlers. The city was incorporated in 1887, and the first mayor was John Hanska.
In the early years, the city was primarily an agricultural community, with many of the residents working on farms. The city also had a number of small businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a hotel.
In the late 19th century, the city began to grow and develop. The railroad arrived in 1887, and the city was connected to the rest of the state. This allowed for the growth of industry, and the city soon had a number of factories, including a flour mill, a creamery, and a furniture factory.

Geography

Hanska is located in Brown County, in the south-central part of the state. It is situated on the banks of the Cottonwood River, about 10 miles east of New Ulm. The city has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land.
