Georgetown is a small city located in Scott County, Minnesota, United States. The city is situated on the banks of the Mississippi River, about 25 miles south of Minneapolis. As of the 2010 census, the population of Georgetown was 1,945.

Geography

Georgetown is located at 44°45'25" North, 93°25'45" West (44.756944, -93.429167). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.
Georgetown is located on the banks of the Mississippi River, and is surrounded by the cities of Shakopee, Savage, Prior Lake, and Burnsville. The city is located in the Minnesota River Valley, and is part of the Twin Cities metropolitan area.

History

Georgetown was first settled in 1854 by a group of settlers from New York. The city was named after George Washington, the first president of the United States. The city was incorporated in 1858.
In the late 19th century, Georgetown was a popular destination for wealthy Minneapolis residents, who built large summer homes along the banks of the Mississippi River. The city was also home to a number of resorts, including the Riverside Hotel, which was built in 1891.

Economy

Georgetown is home to a number of businesses, including a number of small manufacturing companies. The city is also home to a number of retail stores, restaurants, and other businesses.

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,945 people, 790 households, and 517 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,619.2 people per square mile (624.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 94.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 2.2% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.2% of the population.
There were 790 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.3% were married couples living together, 11.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.6% were non-families. 29.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.04.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $50,938, and the median income for a family was $60,000. Males had a median income of $41,250 versus $30,000 for females.
