Foreston Summary

Foreston, Minnesota is a small city located in Mille Lacs County, Minnesota. It is situated on the banks of the Rum River, about 40 miles north of Minneapolis. The city has a population of about 1,000 people and is part of the Twin Cities metropolitan area.

History

Foreston was founded in 1856 by a group of settlers from Wisconsin. The settlers were attracted to the area by the abundance of timber and the potential for farming. The town was originally named “Forsyth” after the first settler, John Forsyth. The name was later changed to Foreston in 1872.
The town grew slowly but steadily over the years, and by the early 1900s it had become a thriving community. The town was home to a variety of businesses, including a sawmill, a grist mill, a creamery, a blacksmith shop, and a general store.
In the early 1900s, Foreston was also home to a large number of Finnish immigrants. The immigrants brought with them their own culture and traditions, which are still evident in the town today.
