Erskine Summary

Erskine, Minnesota is a small city located in Polk County, Minnesota. It is situated on the western edge of the Red River Valley, near the Minnesota-North Dakota border. The city has a population of 1,072 as of the 2010 census.

History

Erskine was founded in 1882 by Norwegian immigrants. The city was named after Erskine, Scotland, the hometown of one of the original settlers. The city was incorporated in 1887.
In the early 1900s, Erskine was a thriving agricultural community. The city was home to a number of businesses, including a creamery, a flour mill, a lumber yard, and a hotel. The city also had a railroad station, which connected it to the rest of the state.
In the 1950s, Erskine began to experience a decline in population. This was due to the decline of the agricultural industry in the area, as well as the increasing popularity of suburban living. By the 1970s, the population had dropped to just over 500.

Geography

Erskine is located in northwestern Minnesota, near the Minnesota-North Dakota border. The city is situated on the western edge of the Red River Valley, which is a large, flat plain. The city is surrounded by rolling hills and forests.
The city has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land. The city is located at an elevation of 1,072 feet above sea level.
