Deer Creek Summary

Deer Creek, Minnesota is a small city located in Otter Tail County, Minnesota. It is situated on the banks of the Otter Tail River, about 25 miles northwest of Fergus Falls. The city has a population of 1,845 people, according to the 2010 census.

History

The area that is now Deer Creek was first settled in the late 1800s by Norwegian immigrants. The first settlers were attracted to the area by the abundance of timber and the potential for farming. The first post office was established in 1883 and the city was officially incorporated in 1887.
The city was named after the nearby Deer Creek, which was named by the first settlers for the abundance of deer in the area. The city grew slowly but steadily over the years, and by the early 1900s, it had become a thriving community with a variety of businesses, including a bank, a hotel, a lumber mill, and a creamery.
