Dassel Summary

Dassel is a small city located in Meeker County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,619 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Meeker County.

History

The area that is now Dassel was first settled in 1856 by a group of Swedish immigrants. The town was originally called Swede Grove, but was later changed to Dassel in 1871. The name was chosen in honor of the Swedish city of Dalsland, which is located in the same region of Sweden as the original settlers.

The first post office in Dassel was established in 1871 The town was incorporated in 1887

Geography

Dassel is located at the intersection of U.S. Route 12 and Minnesota State Highway 15. It is approximately 50 miles west of Minneapolis and 25 miles east of St. Cloud.
The city is situated on the banks of the Crow River, which flows through the city. The city is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland.

Economy

The economy of Dassel is largely based on agriculture. The city is home to several large farms, as well as a number of smaller family-owned farms.
