Burtrum Summary
Burtrum is a small unincorporated community located in Todd County, Minnesota, United States. It is situated along the south shore of Long Prairie River, approximately 8 miles east of Long Prairie. The population of Burtrum was estimated to be around 200 in the year 2000.
History
Burtrum was first settled in 1856 by a group of German immigrants. The town was named after one of the settlers, John Burtrum. The town was officially platted in 1877 and incorporated in 1881.
In the early years, Burtrum was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to a number of businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, a hotel, a sawmill, and a creamery. The town also had a post office, which was established in 1877.
