Bertha Summary

Bertha, Minnesota is a small town located in Todd County, in the west-central part of the state. It is situated on the banks of the Crow River, about 25 miles northwest of St. Cloud. The town was founded in 1881 and was named after Bertha Schmeling, the daughter of a local settler.

Geography

Bertha is located in the rolling hills of the Minnesota River Valley. The town is situated on the banks of the Crow River, which flows through the town and is a popular spot for fishing and canoeing. The town is surrounded by farmland and is located near the edge of the Big Woods, a large area of forested land. The town is located about 25 miles northwest of St. Cloud and about 50 miles south of Fargo, North Dakota.

Climate

Bertha has a humid continental climate, with cold winters and warm summers. The average annual temperature is around 40 degrees Fahrenheit, with average highs in the summer reaching around 80 degrees and lows in the winter dropping to around 10 degrees. The town receives an average of around 30 inches of precipitation each year, with most of it falling in the form of snow.

As of the 2010 census, Bertha had a population of 545 people. The racial makeup of the town was 97.3% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.4% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.

Economy

Bertha’s economy is largely based on agriculture and tourism. The town is home to several farms, which produce a variety of crops, including corn, soybeans, and wheat. The town is also home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants. Tourism is also an important part of the local economy, with many visitors coming to the area to enjoy the natural beauty of the Minnesota River Valley.
