Whitehouse Summary

Whitehouse is a village located in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 4,149 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Toledo Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Whitehouse was founded in 1835 by John White, a settler from New York. The village was originally known as White's Corners, but the name was changed to Whitehouse in 1837. The village was incorporated in 1867.

Geography

Whitehouse is located at 41°30'25" North, 83°45'17" West (41.506944, -83.754722). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all land.

Economy

Whitehouse is home to several businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a bank, a pharmacy, and several restaurants. The village is also home to a number of manufacturing companies, including a plastics manufacturer, a metal fabricator, and a tool and die maker.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 3,945 people, 1,521 households, and 1,093 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,811.2 people per square mile (699.7/km2). There were 1,611 housing units at an average density of 735.2 per square mile (283.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.45% White, 0.51% African American, 0.33% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.38% from other races, and 1.37% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.08% of the population.
There were 1,521 households, out of which 36.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 11.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.2% were non-families. 24.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.59 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 28.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $45,938, and the median income for a family was $51,964. Males had a median income of $40,000 versus $25,938 for females. The per capita income for the village was $20,945. About 4.2% of families and 5.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.2% of those under age 18 and 4.2% of those age 65 or over.
