Wharton Summary

Wharton is a small village located in Wyandot County, Ohio. It is situated on the banks of the Sandusky River, approximately 25 miles northwest of the city of Findlay. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people and is part of the Upper Sandusky Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Wharton was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The village was named after the Wharton family, who were among the first settlers. The village was incorporated in 1845 and has remained relatively unchanged since then.
The village was an important stop on the Underground Railroad, with many of the local residents helping to hide and transport escaped slaves. During the Civil War, Wharton was a major supplier of food and supplies to the Union Army.

Wharton is located at 40°37'N, 83°25'W (40.6167, -83.4167). The village is situated on the banks of the Sandusky River, approximately 25 miles northwest of the city of Findlay. The village has a total area of 0.6 square miles, all of which is land.
