Millgrove was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The village was originally known as Millgrove Station, and was named after the nearby Millgrove Creek. The creek was named for the numerous mills that were located along its banks. The village was incorporated in 1867, and the first post office was established in 1868.
In the late 19th century, the village was a popular stop on the Toledo and Ohio Central Railroad. The railroad brought many new settlers to the area, and the village grew rapidly. By the early 20th century, the village had a population of over 1,000.
In the mid-20th century, the village began to decline. The railroad stopped running through the village, and many of the businesses closed. The population of the village dropped to just over 500 by the 2010 census.
Today, Millgrove is a small, rural village with a limited economy. The village is home to several small businesses, and is a popular spot for fishing and canoeing. The village is also home to a few small manufacturing companies, and is a popular destination for tourists and outdoor enthusiasts.
