Tontogany Summary

Tontogany is a small village located in Wood County, Ohio, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bowling Green Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Tontogany was founded in 1837 by John Tontogany, a Revolutionary War veteran. The village was originally known as Tontogany Station, as it was a stop on the Toledo, Norwalk and Cleveland Railroad. The village was incorporated in 1876.

Geography

Tontogany is located at 41°19'25" North, 83°30'45" West (41.323750, -83.512550). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.8 km2), all land.

Economy

Tontogany is a small village with a limited economy. The village is home to a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants. The village also has a post office and a bank.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 545 people, 206 households, and 152 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,845.2 people per square mile (717.2/km2). There were 218 housing units at an average density of 745.2 per square mile (288.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.90% White, 0.18% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.18% Asian, and 0.55% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.37% of the population.
