Shawnee Summary

Shawnee, Ohio is a small village located in the northwest corner of Paulding County, Ohio. It is situated on the banks of the Auglaize River, and is surrounded by the towns of Paulding, Payne, and Grover Hill. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people, and is home to a variety of businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a bank, and a post office.

History

Shawnee was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The village was named after the Shawnee Indians, who had once lived in the area. The first settlers were primarily farmers, and the village quickly grew to include a blacksmith shop, a general store, and a post office.
In 1845, the village was incorporated, and the first mayor was elected. The village continued to grow, and by the late 1800s, it had become a thriving community with a variety of businesses, including a hotel, a bank, a newspaper, and a variety of other stores.
In the early 1900s, the village was connected to the outside world by the Toledo and Ohio Central Railroad. This allowed for the shipment of goods and services to and from the village, and helped to further its growth.
