Seven Mile is a small village located in Butler County, Ohio, United States. The village is situated along the Great Miami River, approximately seven miles east of Hamilton, the county seat. As of the 2010 census, the village had a population of 1,541.
History
The area that is now Seven Mile was first settled in the early 1800s by a group of German immigrants. The village was originally known as “Germantown” and was located along the Great Miami River. In 1845, the village was renamed “Seven Mile” after the distance between it and Hamilton.
The village was incorporated in 1867 and was home to a variety of businesses, including a grist mill, a saw mill, a blacksmith shop, a general store, and a post office. The village also had a school, a church, and a cemetery.
Geography
Seven Mile is located at 39°27'25" North, 84°37'17" West (39.456944, -84.621389). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.
Economy
The economy of Seven Mile is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several farms, which produce a variety of crops, including corn, soybeans, wheat, and hay. The village also has a few small businesses, including a gas station, a convenience store, and a restaurant.
Demographics
As of the 2010 census, there were 1,541 people, 602 households, and 431 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,179.3 people per square mile (841.3/km2). There were 645 housing units at an average density of 917.1 per square mile (354.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.7% of the population.
There were 602 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.3% were married couples living together, 11.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.3% were non-families. 25.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $41,250, and the median income for a family was $48,750. Males had a median income of $35,000 versus $25,000 for females. The per capita income for the village was $18,945.
