Scio Summary

Scio, Ohio is a small village located in Harrison County, Ohio. It is situated in the Appalachian foothills of eastern Ohio, approximately 30 miles east of the state capital of Columbus. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people and is part of the larger Harrison County area, which has a population of approximately 15,000.

History

Scio was founded in 1817 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The village was named after the Greek word for “knowledge”, and was intended to be a center of learning and education. The village was incorporated in 1837 and has remained a small, rural community ever since.
The village was an important stop on the Underground Railroad, and was home to several prominent abolitionists. In the late 19th century, the village was a major center of the oil and gas industry, and was home to several oil refineries.

Scio is located in the Appalachian foothills of eastern Ohio, approximately 30 miles east of the state capital of Columbus. The village is situated in a valley surrounded by rolling hills and forests. The village is located on the banks of the Tappan Creek, which flows through the village and is a popular spot for fishing and swimming.
