Sardinia Summary
Sardinia is a village located in Brown County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,717 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cincinnati-Middletown Metropolitan Statistical Area.
History
Sardinia was founded in 1817 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The village was named after the island of Sardinia, Italy. The first post office was established in 1820. The village was incorporated in 1845.
Geography
Sardinia is located at 39°17'25" North, 83°45'45" West (39.290278, -83.7625). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all land.
Economy
Sardinia is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a restaurant, and a bank. The village also has a post office and a library.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,717 people, 690 households, and 486 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,420.3 people per square mile (548.7/km2). There were 730 housing units at an average density of 602.2 per square mile (232.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.45% White, 0.35% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.12% Asian, 0.12% from other races, and 0.91% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.35% of the population.
There were 690 households, out of which 33.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.3% were married couples living together, 11.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.3% were non-families. 26.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.00.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $37,500, and the median income for a family was $45,000. Males had a median income of $31,964 versus $22,500 for females. The per capita income for the village was $17,845.
