Rayland Summary

Rayland, Ohio is a small village located in Jefferson County, Ohio. It is situated on the banks of the Ohio River, approximately 30 miles west of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people and covers an area of 0.6 square miles.

History

Rayland was founded in 1817 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The village was named after the Ray family, who were among the first settlers. The Ray family owned a large tract of land in the area and the village was built around their homestead.
In the early years, the village was a small farming community. The main crops grown were corn, wheat, and oats. The village also had a few small businesses, such as a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a sawmill.
In the late 19th century, the village began to grow and develop. The railroad was extended to Rayland in 1881, which allowed for the transportation of goods and people. This led to the growth of the village and the establishment of several new businesses.
In the early 20th century, the village continued to grow and develop. The population increased and new businesses were established. The village also had a post office, a bank, and a newspaper.
