Pitsburg Summary

Pitsburg, Ohio is a small village located in Darke County, Ohio. It is situated in the western part of the state, approximately 40 miles east of Dayton and 40 miles west of Columbus. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people and is part of the Greenville, Ohio Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Pitsburg was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The village was named after the nearby Pitsburg Creek, which was named after a local Native American chief. The village was originally a farming community, but it soon developed into a small industrial center. The first industry in the village was a sawmill, which was built in 1845. The sawmill was followed by a gristmill, a woolen mill, and a tannery.
