Pettisville Summary

Pettisville is a small village located in Fulton County, Ohio, United States. It is situated in the northwest corner of the county, approximately 10 miles south of the Michigan border. The village is part of the Wauseon Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census, the village had a population of 545.

History

Pettisville was founded in 1837 by John Pettis, a native of New York. He purchased the land from the government and began to develop the area. The village was originally known as Pettisville Station, as it was a stop on the Toledo, Wabash and Western Railroad. The village was officially incorporated in 1875.

Geography

Pettisville is located at 41°30'25"N 84°14'45"W (41.5069, -84.2458). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Pettisville is a small, rural community with a primarily agricultural economy. The village is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant. The village also has a post office and a bank.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 545 people, 206 households, and 149 families residing in the village. The population density was 890.0 people per square mile (344.3/km2). There were 221 housing units at an average density of 363.3 per square mile (140.5/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.3% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.4% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
There were 206 households, out of which 33.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.8% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.6% were non-families. 24.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.14.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 28.2% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.3 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $45,000, and the median income for a family was $50,000. Males had a median income of $35,000 versus $25,000 for females. The per capita income for the village was $19,000.
