Osgood Summary

Osgood is a village located in the state of Ohio, United States. It is located in the county of Auglaize, and is part of the Wapakoneta Micropolitan Statistical Area. The population of Osgood was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

Osgood was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The village was named after the first settler, John Osgood. The first post office was established in 1838, and the village was incorporated in 1875.
Osgood was a major stop on the Cincinnati, Wabash and Michigan Railroad, which ran through the village from 1871 to the early 1900s. The railroad brought many new settlers to the area, and the village grew rapidly.

Geography

Osgood is located at 40°31'25"N 84°17'45"W (40.523861, -84.295890). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Osgood is a small village with a limited economy. The main industries in the area are agriculture and manufacturing. The village is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,845 people, 717 households, and 486 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,621.4 people per square mile (1,009.2/km2). There were 767 housing units at an average density of 1,093.6 per square mile (421.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.3% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.9% of the population.
There were 717 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.3% were married couples living together, 12.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% were non-families. 28.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.14.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $37,500, and the median income for a family was $45,000. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $22,500 for females. The per capita income for the village was $17,845. About 6.2% of families and 8.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.2% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.
