North Fairfield Summary

Fairfield, Ohio is a small village located in Huron County, Ohio. It is situated on the banks of the Huron River, and is part of the larger Sandusky metropolitan area. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people, and is home to a variety of businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.

History

Fairfield was first settled in 1817 by a group of settlers from Connecticut. The village was originally known as North Fairfield, and was part of the larger township of Fairfield. The village was officially incorporated in 1837, and the name was changed to Fairfield in 1845.
The village was an important stop on the Underground Railroad, and was home to several prominent abolitionists, including John Brown and Harriet Tubman. The village was also home to a number of prominent businesses, including a flour mill, a sawmill, and a tannery.
