New Bremen Summary
New Bremen is a village located in Auglaize County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,945 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wapakoneta, Ohio Micropolitan Statistical Area.
History
New Bremen was founded in 1832 by German immigrants from Bremen, Germany. The village was originally known as Bremen, but the name was changed to New Bremen in 1833 to avoid confusion with the nearby town of Bremen. The village was incorporated in 1837.
The village was an important center of commerce in the 19th century, with several mills, a brewery, and a distillery. The village was also home to the first bank in Auglaize County, which was established in 1845.

As of the census of 2010, there were 2,945 people, 1,093 households, and 790 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,457.5 people per square mile (948.3/km2). There were 1,164 housing units at an average density of 971.7 per square mile (375.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.7% White, 0.3% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.9% of the population.
There were 1,093 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.2% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.2% were non-families. 24.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.12.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.2 males.
