Moscow Summary

Moscow is a small village located in Clermont County, Ohio, United States. It is situated on the east side of the Little Miami River, about 25 miles east of Cincinnati. The population of Moscow was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

Moscow was founded in 1817 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The village was named after the Russian city of Moscow. The first post office was established in 1820. The village was incorporated in 1845.
In the late 19th century, Moscow was a thriving agricultural community. The village was home to several mills, a canning factory, and a brickyard. The village also had a railroad station, which connected it to Cincinnati and other nearby towns.

Geography

Moscow is located at 39°14'25" North, 84°2'25" West (39.240278, -84.040278). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.7 square miles, all of it land.

Economy

Moscow’s economy is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several farms, which produce a variety of crops, including corn, soybeans, wheat, and hay. The village also has several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 717 households, and 486 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,621.4 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the village was 97.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.9% of the population.
There were 717 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% were married couples living together, 13.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.14.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 26.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $41,250, and the median income for a family was $50,000. Males had a median income of $36,250 versus $25,000 for females. The per capita income for the village was $19,845. About 5.2% of families and 7.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.2% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.
