Minster Summary

Minster, Ohio is a village located in Auglaize County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,805 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wapakoneta, Ohio Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Minster was founded in 1832 by German immigrants from the Rhineland-Palatinate region of Germany. The village was named after the city of Münster in Germany. The first settlers were the families of John and Henry Homan, John and Henry Schmiesing, and John and Henry Wuebker. The village was incorporated in 1866.

Geography

Minster is located at 40°25'25" North, 84°25'25" West (40.423, -84.423). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all land.

Economy

Minster is home to several businesses, including Minster Machine Company, a manufacturer of metal-forming machinery, and Crown Equipment Corporation, a manufacturer of material handling equipment. The village is also home to several small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and service providers.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 2,805 people, 1,093 households, and 790 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,338.3 people per square mile (902.2/km2). There were 1,164 housing units at an average density of 971.7 per square mile (375.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.7% White, 0.3% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.9% of the population.
There were 1,093 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.2% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.3% were non-families. 25.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.09.
