Marengo Summary

Marengo is a small village located in Morrow County, Ohio. It is situated on the banks of the Olentangy River, approximately 25 miles northwest of Columbus. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people and is part of the Cardington-Lincoln Local School District.

History

Marengo was founded in 1817 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The village was named after the Battle of Marengo, which was fought in 1800 during the Napoleonic Wars. The village was originally a farming community, but it soon developed into a small industrial center. The first industry in the village was a sawmill, which was built in 1820. This was followed by a gristmill, a woolen mill, and a tannery.
In 1837, the village was incorporated and the first mayor was elected. The village continued to grow and by the late 19th century, it had become a thriving community with a variety of businesses, including a bank, a hotel, a newspaper, and several churches.

Marengo is located in Morrow County, Ohio. It is situated on the banks of the Olentangy River, approximately 25 miles northwest of Columbus.
