History
The area that is now Liberty Center was first settled in 1835 by a group of settlers from Liberty Township, Ohio. The village was platted in 1837 and named Liberty Center. The village was incorporated in 1841.
The village was named for its location at the center of Liberty Township. The village was the county seat of Henry County from its formation in 1820 until 1876, when the county seat was moved to Napoleon.
