Huron was founded in 1809 by a group of settlers from Connecticut. The town was named after the Huron Indians, who were native to the area. The first settlers were attracted to the area by the abundance of fish and game in the area. The town was incorporated in 1837.
In the late 19th century, Huron became a popular tourist destination due to its proximity to Lake Erie. The town was home to several resorts, including the Huron Beach Hotel, which was built in 1891. The hotel was destroyed by fire in 1912.
In the early 20th century, Huron became a popular summer destination for wealthy families from Cleveland and other nearby cities. The town was home to several large estates, including the Huron Pointe Estate, which was built in 1910.

Huron is located at 41°22′N 82°37′W (41.3667, -82.6167). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.2 square miles (10.8 km2), of which 4.1 square miles (10.6 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km2) is water.

The racial makeup of the city was 97.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.3% from other races, and 1.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.

The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.3 males.
