Hopedale Summary

Hopedale is a village located in Harrison County, Ohio, United States. It is situated along the Ohio River, approximately 20 miles south of Steubenville. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

History

Hopedale was founded in 1817 by a group of Quakers from North Carolina. The village was named after the Hopedale Meeting House, which was built in 1818. The village was incorporated in 1837.
In the late 19th century, Hopedale was a major center for coal mining and steel production. The village was home to several steel mills, including the Hopedale Steel Company, which was founded in 1883. The steel mills provided employment for many of the village's residents.
