History

Haviland was founded in 1854 by John Haviland, a native of England. He purchased the land from the government and began to develop the area. The village was incorporated in 1876.
The village was named after John Haviland, who was a prominent local businessman. He owned a sawmill, a grist mill, and a general store. He also served as the postmaster for the village.
