Dennison is a village located in Tuscarawas County, Ohio. It is situated along the Tuscarawas River, approximately 25 miles south of Canton and 40 miles east of Akron. The population of Dennison was 2,845 at the 2010 census.

History

Dennison was founded in 1833 by John Dennison, a Quaker from Pennsylvania. He purchased the land from the United States government and named the village after himself. The village was incorporated in 1867.
In the late 19th century, Dennison was a major railroad hub. The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, the Pennsylvania Railroad, and the Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad all had lines running through the village. The railroads brought many new jobs to the area, and the population of Dennison grew rapidly.
In the early 20th century, Dennison was home to several large industries, including a glass factory, a brickyard, and a steel mill. The steel mill was the largest employer in the village, and it provided jobs for many of the residents.

There were 1,093 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% were married couples living together, 14.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $33,958, and the median income for a family was $41,250. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $22,500 for females. The per capita income for the village was $16,845.
