Convoy is a village located in Van Wert County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,541 at the 2010 census. It is the home of the annual Convoy Potato Festival, which is held the first weekend of August.

History

Convoy was founded in 1871 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The village was named after the Conestoga wagon, which was used to transport goods across the country. The first post office was established in 1872.

In 1876 the first school was built in Convoy The village was incorporated in 1881

In the early 1900s, Convoy was a thriving agricultural community. The village was home to several grain elevators, a flour mill, a creamery, and a canning factory.
In the 1950s, Convoy began to experience a decline in population as people moved away to larger cities. The village was able to maintain its population due to the influx of Amish families who moved to the area.

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,541 people, 602 households, and 431 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,213.6 people per square mile (854.7/km2). There were 645 housing units at an average density of 917.1 per square mile (354.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.7% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.7% of the population.
There were 602 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.3% were married couples living together, 10.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.3% were non-families. 26.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who were 65 years of age or older.
