Clay Center Summary
Clay Center is a village located in Sandusky County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fremont, Ohio Micropolitan Statistical Area.
History
Clay Center was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The village was named after Henry Clay, a prominent statesman of the time. The first post office was established in 1838.
In 1854 the first schoolhouse was built in Clay Center The village was incorporated in 1867

Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,093 people, 431 households, and 298 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,845.2 people per square mile (711.7/km2). There were 463 housing units at an average density of 776.3 per square mile (299.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.99% White, 0.09% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 0.37% from other races, and 1.27% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.64% of the population.
There were 431 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.2% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.13.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.2 males.
