Circleville Summary
Circleville, Ohio is a city located in Pickaway County, Ohio, United States. The population was 13,314 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pickaway County. The city is best known for its annual Circleville Pumpkin Show, an event that draws over 500,000 visitors each year.
History
Circleville was founded in 1810 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The town was named after the circular shape of the original town plat. The town was incorporated in 1815 and became the county seat of Pickaway County in 1817.
Circleville was an important stop on the Underground Railroad, with many of the town's residents helping to hide and transport escaped slaves. The town was also the site of a major Civil War battle in 1863.
Geography
Circleville is located at 39°37′N 82°59′W (39.619, -82.983). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.2 square miles (13.4 km2), all land.

As of the census of 2010, there were 13,314 people, 5,541 households, and 3,541 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,567.2 people per square mile (992.2/km2). There were 6,068 housing units at an average density of 1,170.2 per square mile (451.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 94.2% White, 2.3% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.2% of the population.
There were 5,541 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples living together, 14.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.7% were non-families. 32.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.94.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 23.7% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 18.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 90.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $37,845, and the median income for a family was $45,945. Males had a median income of $35,945 versus $25,945 for females.
