Christiansburg Summary

History
The area that is now Christiansburg was first settled in 1804 by a group of German immigrants led by John Christian. The village was named after him and was incorporated in 1837.
The village was a major stop on the Dayton and Michigan Railroad, which was built in 1851. The railroad was a major factor in the growth of the village, as it allowed for the transportation of goods and people.
The village was also home to a number of businesses, including a flour mill, a sawmill, a grist mill, a blacksmith shop, a tannery, and a brickyard.

There were 762 housing units at an average density of 1,082.2 per square mile (417.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.45% White, 0.11% African American, 0.11% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.11% from other races, and 1.11% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.43% of the population.
There were 717 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.2% were married couples living together, 10.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.2% were non-families. 25.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.08.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 26.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older.
