History
Catawba was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Catawba County, North Carolina. The village was originally known as Catawba Station, as it was a stop on the Toledo, Norwalk and Cleveland Railroad. The village was officially incorporated in 1867.
The village was named after the Catawba Indians, who were the original inhabitants of the area. The Catawba were a Siouan-speaking tribe that lived in the area for centuries before the arrival of European settlers. The Catawba were eventually forced out of the area by the Iroquois and other tribes.

Catawba is located at 41°25'N, 82°59'W (41.4167, -82.9833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

There were 441 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.7% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 24.7% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 24.7% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $41,250, and the median income for a family was $50,000. Males had a median income of $37,500 versus $25,000 for females. The per capita income for the village was $19,945.
