History

Carey was founded in 1845 by John Carey, a local landowner. The village was incorporated in 1854. The village was named after Carey, who donated the land for the village.

The racial makeup of the village was 97.2% White, 0.3% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.8% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
