Berlin Heights Summary

Berlin Heights is a village located in Erie County, Ohio, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sandusky, Ohio Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Berlin Heights was founded in 1817 by a group of settlers from Berlin, Connecticut. The village was originally known as Berlin, but the name was changed to Berlin Heights in 1837. The village was incorporated in 1867.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all land.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 545 people, 212 households, and 155 families residing in the village. The population density was 890.3 people per square mile (344.3/km2). There were 221 housing units at an average density of 359.2 per square mile (138.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.18% White, 0.37% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.37% Asian, and 0.92% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.37% of the population.
There were 212 households, out of which 33.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.4% were married couples living together, 9.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.4% were non-families. 22.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 3.02.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 24.3% from 45 to 64, and 13.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
