Beaverdam Summary

Beaverdam is a small village located in northwest Ohio, in the United States. It is situated in Allen County, and is part of the Lima Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people, and is located near the city of Lima.

History

Beaverdam was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The village was named after the nearby Beaverdam Creek, which was named for the large number of beavers that lived in the area. The settlers built a sawmill and gristmill, and the village quickly grew. By 1845, the village had a post office, a school, and several stores.
In the late 19th century, Beaverdam was a thriving agricultural community. The village was home to several grain elevators, a creamery, and a cheese factory. The village also had a number of churches, including the United Brethren Church, the Methodist Episcopal Church, and the Presbyterian Church.
In the early 20th century, Beaverdam began to decline. The village was bypassed by the railroad, and the population began to decline. By the 1950s, the village had only a few hundred residents.
