Beaver was founded in 1806 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The village was named after the Beaver River, which runs through the area. The first post office was established in 1809. In 1810, the first school was built in the village.

The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
