Arlington Summary

Arlington is a village located in Hancock County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Findlay-Hancock County Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Arlington was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was named after Arlington, New York, the hometown of the settlers. The first post office in Arlington was established in 1838.
In 1845, the first schoolhouse was built in the village. The first church was built in 1848. The first newspaper, the Arlington Gazette, was established in 1851.
In 1854, the first railroad line was built through the village. This allowed for the growth of the village and the surrounding area.

The economy of Arlington is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several farms, as well as a few small businesses.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,845 people, 717 households, and 517 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,619.2 people per square mile (1,011.2/km2). There were 762 housing units at an average density of 1,072.2 per square mile (413.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.45% White, 0.11% African American, 0.11% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.11% from other races, and 1.11% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.43% of the population.
