Antwerp Summary

Antwerp is a village located in Paulding County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,717 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Paulding County.

History

Antwerp was founded in 1848 by a group of settlers from Antwerp, Belgium. The village was named after the city in Belgium, and the settlers brought with them the culture and traditions of their homeland. The first settlers were mostly of Dutch and German descent.
The village was incorporated in 1854 and the first mayor was John B. Van Horn. The first post office was established in 1855.

Geography

Antwerp is located at 41°14'25" North, 84°37'45" West (41.240278, -84.629167). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all land.

Antwerp is a small village with a population of 1,717 people. The village is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a pharmacy, a bank, and a few restaurants. The village also has a few manufacturing companies, including a plastics manufacturer and a metal fabrication company.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,717 people, 690 households, and 463 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,420.3 people per square mile (548.7/km2). There were 745 housing units at an average density of 612.3 per square mile (236.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.45% White, 0.35% African American, 0.35% Native American, 0.12% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 0.12% from other races, and 1.59% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.35% of the population.
There were 690 households, out of which 32.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.3% were married couples living together, 11.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.6% were non-families. 30.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 19.7% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.2 males.
