Amelia Summary
Amelia is a village located in Clermont County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,817 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area.
History
The area that is now Amelia was first settled in 1796 by a group of Quakers from North Carolina. The village was named after Amelia, the daughter of one of the settlers. The village was incorporated in 1845.
Geography
Amelia is located at 39°3′17″N 84°14′17″W (39.054722, -84.238056). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.7 square miles (4.4 km2), all land.
Economy
The economy of Amelia is largely based on agriculture and light manufacturing. The village is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.
Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 2,817 people, 1,093 households, and 790 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,664.7 people per square mile (641.3/km2). There were 1,093 housing units at an average density of 641.3 per square mile (247.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.9% of the population.
There were 1,093 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 11.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.7% were non-families. 24.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $45,938, and the median income for a family was $51,964. Males had a median income of $37,917 versus $27,917 for females. The per capita income for the village was $20,945. About 4.2% of families and 5.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.2% of those under age 18 and 5.2% of those age 65 or over.
