Alger Summary

Alger is a village located in Hardin County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lima Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Alger was founded in 1837 by John Alger, a Revolutionary War veteran. The village was originally known as Alger's Station, and was a stop on the Underground Railroad. The village was incorporated in 1875.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,093 people, 431 households, and 305 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,845.2 people per square mile (715.2/km2). There were 463 housing units at an average density of 776.2 per square mile (300.2/km2).
