History
Ada was founded in 1831 by settlers from Pennsylvania and Virginia. The village was named after Ada Rittenhouse, the daughter of one of the settlers. The village was incorporated in 1851.
In the late 19th century, Ada was a center of the oil industry in Ohio. The village was home to several oil refineries and related businesses.

As of the census of 2010, there were 5,952 people, 2,521 households, and 1,541 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,711.2 people per square mile (1,049.2/km2). There were 2,721 housing units at an average density of 1,228.2 per square mile (474.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 2,521 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples living together, 13.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.7% were non-families. 32.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.94.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $35,938, and the median income for a family was $45,938. Males had a median income of $32,917 versus $22,917 for females. The per capita income for the village was $18,938.
