Toledo Summary

Toledo, Washington is a small city located in Lewis County, Washington, United States. It is situated on the Cowlitz River, approximately 25 miles (40 km) north of the state capital, Olympia. The population of Toledo was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

Toledo was first settled in 1852 by a group of settlers from the Oregon Territory. The town was named after the city of Toledo, Ohio, which was the hometown of one of the settlers. The town was officially incorporated in 1891.
Toledo was an important port on the Cowlitz River, and was the site of the first bridge across the river. The bridge was built in 1891 and was the first bridge to span the Cowlitz River.
Toledo was also the site of the first sawmill in Lewis County. The mill was built in 1853 and was the first of many mills that would be built in the area.

Geography

Toledo is located at 46°25′N 122°45′W (46.4133, -122.7500). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.
