South Wenatchee Summary

History

South Wenatchee is a city located in Chelan County, Washington, United States. It is part of the Wenatchee–East Wenatchee Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 8,867 at the 2010 census.
The area was first settled in the late 19th century by homesteaders, and the town was officially incorporated in 1909. The city was named after the nearby Wenatchee River, which was named after the Wenatchi Native American tribe.
The city was originally a farming and ranching community, but in the early 20th century, it began to develop into an industrial center. The city was home to several lumber mills, a fruit packing plant, and a cannery. The city also had a thriving business district, with several stores, restaurants, and hotels.
In the 1950s, the city began to experience a population boom, as people moved to the area to take advantage of the booming economy. The city's population grew from 2,000 in 1950 to over 8,000 by the year 2000.

Geography

South Wenatchee is located in the Wenatchee Valley, at the confluence of the Wenatchee and Columbia Rivers. The city is situated on the east side of the Columbia River, just south of the city of Wenatchee.
The city has a total area of 4.3 square miles, all of which is land. The city is located at an elevation of 1,068 feet above sea level.
