Montandon Summary

Montandon is a small borough located in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. It is situated along the Susquehanna River, approximately 10 miles north of the city of Sunbury. The population of Montandon was 545 at the 2010 census.

History

Montandon was founded in 1817 by John Montandon, a Revolutionary War veteran. The town was originally known as Montandon’s Ferry, as it was the site of a ferry crossing the Susquehanna River. The town was incorporated in 1845 and was named after its founder.
In the late 19th century, Montandon was a thriving industrial center. The town was home to several factories, including a paper mill, a sawmill, a grist mill, and a tannery. The town also had a railroad station, which connected it to the rest of the region.

Geography

Montandon is located at 40°51'17" North, 76°45'45" West (40.854722, -76.762500). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.4 square miles, all of it land.
The borough is situated along the Susquehanna River, and is bordered by the townships of Turbot and Delaware. The town is located approximately 10 miles north of the city of Sunbury.

Economy

Montandon’s economy is largely based on agriculture and tourism. The town is home to several farms, which produce a variety of crops, including corn, soybeans, and hay. The town also has several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.
The town is also a popular tourist destination. The Susquehanna River provides a variety of recreational activities, including fishing, boating, and swimming. The town also has several parks, including Montandon Park, which features a playground, picnic areas, and a walking trail.
