Sylva Summary

Sylva is a town located in Jackson County, North Carolina, United States. It is the county seat of Jackson County and is located in the southwestern part of the state. The population was 2,588 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Sylva is located at 35°22′N 83°13′W (35.37, -83.22). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all of it land.

History

Sylva was founded in 1883 as the county seat of Jackson County. The town was named after William D. Sylva, a prominent local landowner. The town was incorporated in 1889.
