Seven Lakes Summary

Seven Lakes is a small unincorporated community located in Moore County, North Carolina. It is situated in the Sandhills region of the state, approximately 25 miles southwest of Pinehurst and 15 miles east of Aberdeen. The community is named for the seven natural lakes that are located within its boundaries.

History

The area that is now Seven Lakes was originally inhabited by the Catawba and Cheraw Native American tribes. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the late 1700s, and the community was officially established in 1887. The town was originally known as “Seven Lakes Station”, and was a stop on the Aberdeen and Rockfish Railroad.
In the early 1900s, the area began to develop as a resort destination. The Seven Lakes Country Club was established in 1924, and the Seven Lakes Golf Course was built in 1926. The community was incorporated in 1927, and the name was changed to Seven Lakes.

Geography

Seven Lakes is located in the Sandhills region of North Carolina, approximately 25 miles southwest of Pinehurst and 15 miles east of Aberdeen. The community is situated on the western shore of Lake Auman, which is the largest of the seven natural lakes in the area. The other six lakes are Lake Sequoia, Lake Pines, Lake Tillery, Lake Pinehurst, Lake Juniper, and Lake Toxaway.
The terrain in the area is mostly flat, with some rolling hills. The climate is mild, with hot summers and mild winters.

Economy

The economy of Seven Lakes is largely based on tourism. The Seven Lakes Country Club and Golf Course are popular attractions, and the area is also home to several resorts and vacation rental properties.
The community is also home to several small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and service providers.
