Morley Summary

Morley, Michigan is a small village located in Mecosta County, Michigan. It is situated on the banks of the Muskegon River, approximately 20 miles north of Grand Rapids. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people and is part of the Big Rapids, Michigan Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

The area that is now Morley was first settled in 1855 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was originally known as “Morley’s Corners” and was named after the first settler, John Morley. The village was officially incorporated in 1871.
In the late 19th century, Morley was a thriving agricultural community. The village was home to several mills, including a sawmill, a gristmill, and a woolen mill. The village also had a blacksmith shop, a general store, and a post office.
